| Close Encounters Of The Third Kind - Special Edition TrailerFri, 09 Jan 2009 15:03:44 -0800 by foxter65Steven Spielberg followed Jaws (1975), his first major box-office success, with this epic science fiction adventure about a disparate group of people who attempt to contact alien intelligence. Roy Neary (Richard Dreyfuss) is an electrical lineman who, while sent out on emergency repairs, witnesses an unidentified flying object, and even has a "sunburn" from its bright lights to prove it. Neary's wife and children are at first skeptical, then concerned, and eventually fearful, as Roy refuses to accept a "logical" explanation for what he saw and is prepared to give up his job, his home, and his family to pursue the "truth" about UFOs. Neary's obsession eventually puts him in contact with others who've had close encounters with alien spacecraft, including Jillian (Melinda Dillon), a single mother whose son disappeared during her UFO experience, and Claude Lacombe (celebrated French filmmaker François Truffaut), a French researcher who believes that we can use a musical language to communicate with alien visitors. Lacombe's theory is put to the test when a band of government researchers and underground UFO enthusiasts (including Neary) join for an exchange with alien visitors near Devil's Tower, Wyoming. In 1980, a "Special Edition" was released. While its primary selling point was the addition of scenes inside the alien spaceship, Spielberg claimed that he also cleaned up some choppy editing in the second act.Richard Dreyfuss - Roy NearyFrançois Truffaut - Claude LacombeTeri Garr - Ronnie NearyMelinda Dillon - Jillian GuilerCary Guffey - Barry GuilerBob Balaban - David LaughlinJ. | Insidermedicine in 60 - January 9, 2009Fri, 09 Jan 2009 14:43:20 -0800 by insidermedicineFrom London - According to research in the journal Cell Stem Cell, a new technique may help the body repair itself with stem cells. In a study of mice, researchers found a way to cause bone marrow to make extra adult stem cells, allowing the body to produce its own repair kit that could potentially mend broken bones and fix damaged heart tissue. Another application may be to produce extra immune suppressing stem cells to treat autoimmune diseases. From Minnesota - According to research in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention, the risk of colorectal cancer is lower among women undergoing hormone therapy. In a study of nearly 1,000 postmenopausal women, researchers found that those who received combined estrogen therapy had a 22% reduced risk for colorectal cancer, compared to those who did not receive hormone therapy. The risk reduction was 36% among those who received sequential therapy. And finally, from Calgary - According to research in the journal Neurobiology of Aging, women who stay physically fit also remain mentally fit. In a study of 42 women with an average age of 65, researchers found that, compared to a sedentary group, those who participated in regular aerobic activity had 10% lower resting blood pressure, 5% better blood flow to the brain, and scored 10% higher on cognitive skill tests. For Insidermedicine in 60, I'm Dr. Susan Sharma.
