| Your Spirit Walks Beside Us: Barbara Dianne SavageWed, 07 Jan 2009 12:59:10 -0800 by BookVideosTVEven before the emergence of the civil rights movement with black churches at its center, African American religion and progressive politics were assumed to be inextricably intertwined. In her revelatory book, Barbara Savage counters this assumption with the story of a highly diversified religious community whose debates over engagement in the struggle for racial equality were as vigorous as they were persistent. Rather than inevitable allies, black churches and political activists have been uneasy and contentious partners. From the 1920s on, some of the best African American minds—W. E. B. Du Bois, Carter G. Woodson, Benjamin Mays, Nannie Helen Burroughs, Mary McLeod Bethune, Charles S. Johnson, and others—argued tirelessly about the churches’ responsibility in the quest for racial justice. Could they be a liberal force, or would they be a constraint on progress? There was no single, unified black church but rather many churches marked by enormous intellectual, theological, and political differences and independence. Yet, confronted by racial discrimination and poverty, churches were called upon again and again to come together as savior institutions for black communities. The tension between faith and political activism in black churches testifies to the difficult and unpredictable project of coupling religion and politics in the twentieth century. By retrieving the people, the polemics, and the power of the spiritual that animated African American political life, Savage has dramatically demonstrated the challenge to all religious institutions seeking political change in our time. | (3/12)Battlefield I The Battle for Italy Episode 6 (GDH)Wed, 07 Jan 2009 12:40:12 -0800 by HoustonGD--SUBSCRIBE TO EXCELLENT World War II VIDEOS---- --UPLOADED Weekly--- Videos Running Time 01:54:00 in 12 PartsBattlefield I: The Battle of Italy Excellent episode chronicling the invasion of Sicily and Italy. Opeartion Minemeat, The Allied deception plan prior to the Sicily invasion, worked perfectly. The Germans second guessed themselves and began shifting units away from Sicily. The German 1st Panzer Division was moved to Greece and the 16SS Panzer Grenadier Division redeployed to Corsica. Mincemeat was the placing of manufactured information on a dead Major Martin and floating him out to sea. Sicily was invaded by the American 7th and the British 8th Armies on July 9th 1943. The Italian 6th Army defended Sicily with 300,000 men. However, the real offensive/defensive capability was the German 14th Panzer Korps. The Herman Goring Panzer Division, the 1st Fallschirmjager Division and the 15 and 29th Panzer Grenadier Divisions, conducted an excellent phased withdraw, saving thousands of troops. Cooperation between the 7th and 8th Armies was abysmal. The advance in Sicily degenerated into a race. The opportunity to trap thousands of elite German units and valuable equipment was lost. Lt. Gen. Pattons behavior, comments and insubordination to Gen. Alexander, cost him his 7th Army command, and quite possibly command of the 12th Army Group in 1944 France. The Allied invasion of Salerno, Operation Avalanche, on September 9th 1943, came close to a disaster. Naval gunfire was able to blunt German counter-attacks. Luftwaffe attacks claimed several ships. The crisis was averted and both the 5th and 8th Armies advanced. With elite German formations, defensive terrain and the Brilliance of Field Marshall Albert Kesselring, the Allies advance grind to a halt before the Gustav Line. The Anzio operation accomplished nothing, but serve into German propaganda. The taking of Monte Cassino by British, Polish, French, Indian and New Zealand troops could have assisted in surrounding thousands of German units. However, Lt. Gen. Clark was more interested in capturing Rome before Italy turned into the forgotten front.Enjoy this excellent episode of Battlefield Related: world war ii worldwarii worldwar2 italy italian anzio salerno monte cassino gustav line battlefield fallschirmjager rome hitler patton panzer grenadier kesselring new zealand german sicily | |

| Sailor Moon - CaramelldansenWed, 07 Jan 2009 12:17:35 -0800 by BlizzardWitchMy friend Ally got me unbelievably addicted to this song, and I immediatly thought of Sailor Moon when I heard it, so of course I had to make a video with it. This is my first video using Sony Vegas Pro, there arent any effects in it, because I haven't quite got the hang of all that stuff quite yet, perhaps I will redo it later on. Enjoy everyone ^_^* I do not own Sailor Moon, or the song, the credit goes to Naoko Takuchi, and the writers of Caramelldansen!* Related: sailor moon anime caramell dansen caramelldansen techno | |
