| L.A. Woman (Doors) by Tubular FamilyMon, 08 Dec 2008 17:27:18 -0800 by declanmacloganThis is better version of L.A. Woman (8th time we did it as a band)in the rehearsal studio.Jenn the keyboard player is back and it makes the song.Gerry H on DrumsSteve L on Lead GtrJoe T on Bass ( 1973 Fender Telecaster Bass) Declan on Vocals, Acoustic Gtr Jenn A - keyboards (a super sweet Nord II keyboard)This tune is particularly tricky because t has at least 4 different drum patterns, 3 different tempos and a section that requires bringing the tempo back up to almost double the starting tempo. Lots of great keyboard fills and solos and lots of cool gutar fills and solos. The bass part is also a hallengng one - drives the tune and is rarely played correctly (usually bass players get it close but it doesn't sound quite right - Joe nails it in this version IMHO)As you can hear n this verson, we are still mapping out the "who plays what where" in the songs.Vocally, its also a challenging tune. All in all a great challenge for the band.Tubular Family is a 70's cover band I play with. Available for bookings in the NYC and tristate area! :-) Related: la woman l.a. doors tubular family declan maclogan |

| our rehearsal studioThu, 04 Dec 2008 14:34:17 -0800 by declanmacloganOur rehearsal studio is ... let just say ... in an "interesting" area of NYC :-) Its one of probably 50-70 studios in one building. The elevator, or as we call it the "killivator" or "hellivator" make you sure that its going to jam between floors, start on fire, drop in freefall from the 5th floor or crush you when the doors close and ignore the fact that you are in the way.The building has an exit on each floor that functions as a smoking and cocktail lounge. It opens on an interior "attrium" that runs from ground floor through the roof and is open to the outside. The bathroom is so scary, I had to tape it and show it. I expect, anyday, to find a dead body sitting on the toilet ;-)Craziest thing is that this neighborhood has never been BETTER in the last 30 years! Joe the bass player has been playing in the space for the last 20 years, so he remembers when the neighborhood wasn't quite this high class.google maps to the neighborhood http://maps.google.c om/maps?f=q&hl=en&ge ocode=&q=38th+and+8t h+new+york+city,+ny& sll=37.0625,-95.6770 68&sspn=33.077336,56 .601563&ie=UTF8&ll=4 0.754881,-73.991632& spn=0.00386,0.010986 &z=17 Related: studio |

| gimme shelter (Rolling Stones) by Tubular FamilySat, 29 Nov 2008 13:20:58 -0800 by declanmacloganThis is rough version of Gimme Shelter by the Rolling Stones ( 3rd time for the band) in the rehearsal studio. It features: Jamie on GuiroGerry H on DrumsSteve L on Lead Gtr Joe T on Bass Declan on Vocals and Acoustic Gtr Jenn, the keyboard player, was out that night, so no keyboards. I tuned my acoustic to an open E chord for this song. Steve played in regular tuning (great leads Steve!). Jame was on Guro (a needed accent to make this tune sound right.)I was trying to play the harp part but I have yet to get the right harp key (F#? If you know, please make a comment) and get the right sound. We need to get some of those soprano female vocals that the original had, to really round out the tune.Great drums by Gerry and great bass by Joe.
